Oak: AR Educational Mobile Apps for Elementary School Students

Description

The project is to provide Augmented Reality (AR)-based mobile applications to improve the quality of learning in K-6 schools by bridging AR technology and education for more than 8,000,000 elementary students all over the country. It aims to speed up the learning process and make it exciting for elementary students so they would understand objectives more effective and become interested in studying. Main advantages of implementing this project are making the low cost ICT-based educational tool which costs only 1 dollar for each textbook, making educational assistance tools available for all segments of society, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable, and synchronizing the education system o the country with the latest ICT technologies. By using these mobile apps, the students can easily watch and experience the theoretical and experimental subjects which might be hard to see in daily life or it costs a lot to explore them. By this, not only the educational system of the country takes advantage of the capacity of ICTs in the best way, but also the growing educational divide within the country will be bridged. This latter achievement also satisfies the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially the G4, G9 and G10. It should be noted that the Oak project model can be replicated for the educational system of any other countries.

This project can be easily replicated for other levels of schooling (other than elementary grades), from pre-school education up to college, or even at work. Moreover, it also can be considered as a successful ICT-based educational assistance tool for other countries' education system and be replicated in those countries. It is because that the users need no special/expensive equipment/infrastructure to use the applications and almost all of the students of the developed countries and most of the students of the developing countries currently own a smartphone.

Sustainability

This project will be alive as long as smartphones and tablets exist and support the Augmented Reality technology. Using the products of this project eliminates any needs of additional paper books for students and saves resources like trees and energy for successors.
