Within this project we will develop andimplement an intelligent light wayguidancesystem, which should attenuateage-related mobility impairments causedby reduced spatio-temporal orientation, worry about getting lost, and fear of falling. This GUIDING LIGHT will consist ofup to date lighting technologies, innovativeintelligent control algorithms, smartmobility monitoring systems, and a distributedinformation system for mobilityparameters. Together with end-usersand all stakeholders we will examinehow these components can be combinedwith inter-personal care services. We will use existing lightings in theserooms and supplement them withadditional lighting equipment andelectrical installation technologies. Aftermodification light characteristicsof lamps will change automatically accordingto the personal daily routine ofresidents.Outcome of the project is an intelligentlight wayguidance system consisting ina variable set of flexible modules thatwork together with other heterogeneoushome automation systems, informationand communication systems as seamlesslyas possible. The application of thisGUIDING LIGHT system will support thespatial-temporal orientation of older peopleand thus sustain their mobility aslong as possible.

The aim of Guiding Light is to develop, tentatively implement and empirically evaluate an intelligent lighting assistance for maintaining and improving indoor and outdoor mobility of older people at different stages of ageing process and to prepare it for market launch. As far as mobility of elderly is concerned, this goal is to be achieved by enhancing their spatial and temporal orientation by means of lighting way guidance system.
