UniteS Academy was established to promote educational development through the use of Information & Communication Technology. The focus is to make globally recognized ICT certification accessible and available to all Nigerian educational institutions. The Mind Wide Open Project creates an opportunity for young women all over the world and inspires them to pursue careers in ICT through hands-on exposure to the latest technology and engagement with industry professionals. The initiative is designed to make ICT education accessible and affordable to girls and women across the educational sector secondary school students in Nigeria, especially to the girl-child. We also seek to a new generation of computer engineers & scientists thereby turning Nigeria into an ICT hub. The initiative targets young people, especially Girls between the ages of 10-19 years. They are encouraged to develop IT skills and earn industry-standard certifications to help narrow the gender gap and encourage greater female participation in the global workforce. The curriculum also includes a training module on gender equality, and the women also receive training in management, entrepreneurship, and gender issues The delivery model allows girls to overcome the barriers of time and distance that are often associated with continuing education. This enables the girl child and women in remote areas to contribute to the development of the IT sector in their regions while raising their standard of living.

UNITeS Academy is a major contributor towards Nigeria’s educational transformation. In actualizing Nigeria’s target in girls and women ICT capacity building and development, our academies have graduated over 12,000 students (54% female) since inception in federal unity Colleges, through the in-school and out-of-school interventions. We are currently training over 25,000 students from different locations across the 36 states of Nigeria. The initiative has created a lot of socio-economic opportunity and skills development, the majority of our students end up working and doing an internship with big-name companies like Google, Cisco etc. The Federal Ministry of education has adopted this initiative as an ICT intervention Project for all the Federal Unity Schools in Nigeria. . By 2011, the program was endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Education as a catalyst to promote education. The approved initiative now has its presence actively in over 104 Federal Unity Colleges, Tertiary Institutions, Polythenic and replicated in private and public schools in Nigerian. We are hoping to establish these initiatives into other educational institutions in Nigeria and beyond
By facilitating and ensuring the future role of girls in the emerging information and knowledge economy and society.
