Girls in Tech Cameroon has been one of those key organizations in Cameroon that has set the ground work needed to inspire next generation female leaders in STEM in Cameroon and Africa. We are focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of girls and women who passionate about technology by bringing to light the special spice women have to offer in these fields. Since its inception in Cameroon, they have never relented their efforts in working towards the advancement and empowerment of girls through hands on practical approaches in building skills for next generation jobs in the field of ICTS, Science, Technology and Engineering. The target audience has been girls enrolled in schools, aged 7-18 year old. We have been able to harness the potential of female role models in schools by creating STEM clubs led by female STEM teachers in schools and have girls adhere to clubs and work around building projects through our project called STEM your School.

We have replicated our work with other organizations like the WAAW foundation in Nigeria, www.waawfoundation.org who has run our model of the STEM teacher programs. We look forward to collaborate in doing regional exchanges to have teachers in Nigeria and Cameroon exchange to share best practices on how they are using technology to improve on their student’s performance. Our work has been scaled to a national level with STEM clubs becoming an integral part of the Ministry of education’s curricula programs since last year. This project will be run in partnership with the Israeli Embassy in Cameroon. The model will be replicated in three regions in Cameroon, focusing on regions with high exodus of youth. Upon successful completion of this project, we intend to share our experiences and run other similar labs around all of Africa.
