Mujeres Conectadas is a program created by Sheva and supported by Tigo Guatemala that aims to reduce the digital gender divide by providing workshops to more than 10,000 girls and women every year. Through Mujeres Conectadas women can learn how to use mobile technology and mobile tools to better their lives. The program consists of two parts, we developed an educative app, called Mujeres Conectads, using an award-wining microlearning platform, where women can learn how to use Internet and Mobile Technology Tools for free. The platform consits of tutorials and aspirational videos, short summaries, and interactive tests. The second part of the program consists of one-to-one workshops where we teach them more detailed information about life-changing tools, including: how to sell products and services online, how to use mobile finance tools, how to use design apps (ex. Canva), and learn new languages (ex. Duolingo). Our program started in Guatemala and due to its success it will be expanded to 7 more countries in Latin American starting in 2019 with our alliance with Millicom. We are working with the University of Zurich to study how mobile technology can increase young women´s aspiration, in order for them to escape from their poverty cycle, due to the opportunities found in our digital borderless world.
