After Access has collected the most comprehensive database on mobile phone and Internet access and use in the Global South. The data is nationally representative across 22 countries, covering a sample of over 26,968, representing approximately 30% of the Globalsouth population. The data is representative with a +/- 3% margin of error (with 95% confidence intervals), and the sample sizes are large enough to allow for gender-disaggregation of data. Few, if not no comparative and nationally representative data sources exist with this level of rigor. Furthermore, the indicators collected are compliant with the universal indicators of the ITU and UNCTAD measuring the Information Society Partnership. Economies of scope: The sampling method adopted across the research countries allows for other nationally representative samples to be drawn in parallel in an affordable way. the sampling procedure involves the listing of target sample units (e.g., households, informal businesses, households with persons with disabilities, etc) at the PSU level, enabling a nationally representative sample of these units to be drawn along side the household sample.
