Asikana Network is an organisation based in Lusaka, Zambia which focuses on empowering girls and women in STEM with a specific biase towards Technology. The organisation does this by teaching women tech skills needed in order to help them stand financially independent as well as mentorship and outreach programs to schools. Our target audience includes primary schools. Secondary schools, colleges/Universities, women in working environments, young women who are transitioning from high school to college and are unsure of their career path. Our major objectives of this initiative are to encourage more females to study more courses in STEM as well as encourage others to take up computers in some aspects of their lives. We work to equip women with life skills that we are sure will be most essential for them to gain financial freedom. The idea is, if we can teach them a skill that they can utilize even without supervision, they are capable of freeing themselves from poverty as well as tech their children and others in the community. We hold frequent classes in different areas: - Video editing classes - Photography - Basic computer usage - Web development - Social Media management - Graphics design - Mobile app development In addition, we also hold regular outreaches to primary, secondary schools and colleges as well as Mentorship programs for the members of the network.
