SoCCs for Peer Mentoring

Description

Asia Initiatives leverages social capital to promote education, healthcare and skill empowerment for underserved communities, with a focus on women and young girls. Our innovative community currency, Social Capital Credits (SoCCs), is a powerful incentive for social good, empowering participants to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. SoCCs have been implemented successfully over fifteen sites across Ghana, Kenya, India and the United States. Our methods have been incorporated into education, health and general livelihood programs, but after fifteen years of development work, our team has come to understand that digital literacy is one of the best paths to truly transformative change for women and girls. Closing the gender gap in technology and STEM will revolutionize the field of development and gender equity around the world, which is why we prioritize digital education. In light of this, AI implemented its “SoCCs for Peer Mentoring” project in Ahmedabad, India to establish a center for adolescent girls, a safe space where participants can access mentoring, homework help and, most importantly, computers and computer training. Our objective is to equip the girls with the confidence, knowledge, skills, self-awareness, abilities and opportunities required to build a better future for themselves.
