Smart Education Delivery using Hologram Technology

Description

King Faisal University (KFU) has implemented a project called (Holotech) that reflects innovative and ambitious trends in education and integrate this project in its complete ecosystem for education, which will target all teaching and learning activities and community services of KFU, which will be delivered allover KSA and GCC countries.
King Faisal University provides beneficiaries (faculty members - students - local community) with hologram imaging services. These technological services, which keep pace with the latest technological developments in virtual reality, reflect the university's keenness to achieve the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 in education, which aims at creating an educational environment that stimulates creativity. Hologram technology is one of the emerging and modern technologies offered by the university through its educational services system, which is enriched with technologies that promote creativity and innovation. Hologram technology is used to display the interactive educational content and elements of the educational process, simulating reality through advanced broadcast studios and halls equipped to receive hologram imaging and a specialized team in the university that serves the beneficiaries and develops the content and elements of the Hologram imaging. Hologram technology achieves interactive learning and training, which is an applied and proactive approach to facilitate the learning process improves the participation of learners and trainees positively, increases their motivation towards learning and training, and increases the learning and training impact. Using holograms in education indicates the digital transformation adoption in the educational and training process. It is also an indicator of the integration of technology in the educational and vocational training process, which enhances the efficiency of spending and rationalizes the costs of attracting and benefiting from experts and specialists.

Replicability

KFU has taken the lead in implementing hologram technology in the educational field in the Arab region including Gulf area, and the Middle East, KFU has gained great experience in the process of implementation, preparation, and management of the hologram project.
KFU welcomes the transfer of this expertise to other universities and institutions that wish to adopt or establish similar projects.
KFU is responding to inquires related to requests of knowledge transfer of this project. KFU is facilitating and arranging field visits for the interested parties, this includes a realistic demonstration of hologram technology, and the ways of transferring expertise.
• Visits made in this regard by: Al-Bilad Bank, Saudi Aramco, etc.
H.E. Minister of Education inaugurated Holotech project during his visit to KFU, He commended the project and recommended its application in other universities, especially in practical colleges and colleges of medicine and science. KFU develops a professional and practical experience in hologram technologies. Experts in the implementation and innovational techniques in broadcasting and holographic objects creation. Hence, KFU welcomes any call for transfer and dissemination of knowledge in this regard to other institutions and community organizations.
KFU uses Hologram technology for teaching and training from figures in the fields from inside and outside Kingdome of Saudi Arabia, through agreements with the world-class Universities for teaching and training exchange. Holotech services provide facilitation of cooperation from experts and specialists in the different fields of education and training locally and internationally through this technology. It provides a virtual hologram presence for experts and specialists and provides the full interactive educational and training process with all its activities without the need for a regular physical presence at the university.


Sustainability

KFU experiences the use of hologram in covering the gap in practical and field learning activities leading to interactive and quality e-learning delivery while COVID-19 pandemic.
The institutional sustainability component is relied upon in management of the holographic project (holotech), where Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education within KFU which is responsible for managing and operating this project, it receives KFU high management support as a strategic project in KFU, which could be concluded in financial support, providing technical and maintenance requirements, hiring specialized resources with high skills and capabilities, and established and operation project for sustaining and maintaining this technology within KFU wide, where introductory workshops for the deanships, faculties and departments of the university, and local community is being hold periodically, this includes introducing hologram technology and the necessity of using it in the educational and training process inside and outside the university.
KFU obtained accreditation certificates for ISO in business continuity, and Information Security. It has achieved an external audit rate of 88.99% for the application of basic cybersecurity controls in order to protect the technical environment of the project. Moreover, it has applied risk management methodology in digital transformation projects, digital services and cybersecurity projects and adopted a governance framework and digital transformation processes and applying Enterprise Architecture standards and frameworks based on Digital Government Authority (DGA) criteria and controls. Recently it has established the permanent committee for digital transformation at the university, including roles, responsibilities, indicators of performance measurement and decision-making, change management procedures, and project management methodologies and institutional structure.


WSIS values promotion

At KFU, we believe that community engagement is a key role of the university. One of the services that we provide to the community is education in all its shapes and forms. KFU invested in using technology to deliver high quality education. E-learning and distance education infrastructure in KFU prompted sustainability through delivering KFU educational services all over KSA areas including rural areas. We exploit our highly qualified human resources and ITC infrastructure to teach and train people who could not attend the university through regular mode in all different disciplines. The aspiration of quality education in all academic programs at KFU is clarified in their mission and goals. Some key features of KFU academic programs that demonstrate the quality of education are: Providing students with professional, employability, and personal knowledge and competence for effective contribution to the local community. The “futuristic education” mission component of KFU has framed teaching future-ready skills that employers want and need. Learning and teaching methodologies that are research driven and have significant practical community and service-learning integration. Methodologies are fostered such as the PBL and service learning of the medical programs, the cooperative training of the computer science, business, science, agriculture and education programs and the use of full digital technologies in delivery approaches across programs. Providing faculty with trainings relevant to teaching and seminars to broaden their content expertise relevant to teaching. Connecting with focus industries to expand educational access and opportunities. All academic programs have collaborations with industry sectors which provide avenue for transformation of learning in classroom to learning in workplace. Seeking local and international accreditation for comparability and reputation.
