Tawakkalna

Description

SDAIA developed Tawakkalna to support government efforts aimed at countering Covid-19 to preserve the health and safety of citizens and residents against the virus. It was developed to facilitate the issuance of movement permits electronically during the curfew, in cooperation with Ministry of Health and relevant authorities. Post the curfew period, Tawakkalna continued to develop new services to mitigate coronavirus impacts on health, economic and social life and transforming it into a super application to serve the Kingdom. As normal life is returning, Tawakkalna is helping the Saudi society by promoting social responsibility through its new services: booking a COVID-19 testing appointment and viewing the results, notifying users on any updates relating to their health conditions, requesting assistance in case of symptoms suspicion, parents’ supervision on their children's educational status, enabling users to view the health status of other users in crowded areas through caution mode, gathering activities and permits control due to COVID19 restrictions, health condition card, health passport confirming that the user has taken all doses of COVID-19 vaccine and is now “immune”, and other related services to limit the spread of Covid-19 virus. Tawakkalna currently has more than 9M registered users with around 1.1M daily active users.

Replicability

The application is innovative by allowing the issuance of movement permits electronically during the curfew period for government and private sector employees, as well as individuals, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities.
Also, it has evolved with new services such as booking a COVID-19 testing appointment and viewing the results, notifying users on any updates relating to their health conditions in accordance with the Ministry of Health data through encrypted personal data, requesting assistance through the application in case of symptoms suspicion directed to Ministry of Health supporting medical team, etc.
Other countries can replicate the concept with the availability of the proper technological infrastructure and collaboration efforts with the respective stakeholders.

Sustainability

In case of another curfew taking place, it helps individuals, security, health and private entities, which are excluded from the curfew, to automatize all their transactions between relevant parties in order to mitigate the health, economic and social impacts that may result from the implementation of policies taken to eliminate the spread of Covid-19.
Also, it still provides updates relating to health conditions in accordance with the Ministry of Health as well as providing users with COVID-19 testing appointments and their results. SDAIA's vision is to transform Tawakkalna into a Super App will sustain its current services and develop more services.

WSIS values promotion

Tawakkalna’s core value was to initiate efforts towards containing the pandemic and protecting individuals against the risk of being infected. This is implemented by providing easy to use services for movement permits issuance during partial or full curfew periods. The application was launched to serve and protect citizens, residents, and travelers of Saudi Arabia against the spread of the virus. Currently, the application allows users to book a COVID-19 test and view the results as well as authorizing the identification to prove users’ health condition securely through the coded colors which provides promotional values to the Saudi community. For example, Tawakkalna provides educational services with occurrence of online schools under a unified, secure and reliable platform which allows parents to preview their children’s educational status, and receive their sign in credentials to the online educational platform “Madrasati”.
