WSIS Prizes Contest 2021 Nominee

Local Food Nodes

We create an independent, donation based, fully financial transparent and not for sale, digital open source solution, for peoples driven, pre-orders only, local farmers markets, and a sales tool for small scale farmers to build real life first hand relations with their costumers, without revenue loss. This as a way to encourage small scale local food production for local markets, to increase local resilience and local food sovereignty.

The key reason we started the project was to find ways to help existing small scale producers get to market, and provide them with tools for better financial sustainability, aswells as pave the way for more people to step into small scale local food production.

target: Small scale food producers that wants to sell to end consumers first hand, and building and owning the first hand relation between them without third party interference.

We have from the start developed the platform in ongoing dialogues with small scale local farmers.

Ensure the systematic dissemination of information using ICTs on agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, forestry and food, in order to provide ready access to comprehensive, up-to-date and detailed knowledge and information, particularly in rural areas.

Public-private partnerships should seek to maximize the use of ICTs as an instrument to improve production (quantity and quality).

Governments, international organizations and the private sector, are encouraged to promote the benefits of international trade and the use of e-business, and promote the use of e-business models in developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

Through the adoption of an enabling environment, and based on widely available Internet access, governments should seek to stimulate private sector investment, foster new applications, content development and public/private partnerships.

Government policies should favour assistance to, and growth of SMMEs, in the ICT industry, as well as their entry into e-business, to stimulate economic growth and job creation as an element of a strategy for poverty reduction through wealth creation.

We want to direct our food production to more sustainable methods, beyond environmental degradation, bee extinction, soil erosion, depletion, and dictating intermediaries. We want to strengthen local food networks, increase local resilience, and create direct relationships between producers and consumers. We are creating local food nodes in order to connect local food producers to local food consumers as well as strengthening those relationships that already exist. We want to enable direct transactions, resilient communities and regain control over what we eat and how it is produced. A desire to make food local again. The result of this desire is an open digital tool where food producers present their food, local consumers order what they like and payments go straight from consumer to producer. Deliveries and pick up of food takes place at a predetermined place and time, this is called a node, this is the physical location where the consumers and producers meet. This type of organization enables producers to deliver to multiple consumers at the same time while consumers can pick up food from many different producers.
