WSIS Prizes Contest 2019 Nominee

Technovation Challenge

A Catalyst for Tech in the Cape

Description

Ran the Technovation Challenge in Cape Town where more than 100 girls from previously disadvantaged areas took part. The beneficiaries were not only the high school girls, but also the parents of the girls, who were exposed to the impact of technology. The goal of the program is to inspire girls to see themselves as not just users of technology, but as inventors, designers, builders and entrepreneurs. This is a global competition that was started by Iridescent, an organisation based in San Francisco. Some of the teachers were mentors and other women from the industry. Two teams from Cape Town made it to the semi-finals. The two coaches who were selected to represent South Africa at the Technovation World Summit Master Educators training in San Francisco were from this programme. The World Pitch Summit Event was held from 10-14July 2016.
