ICTs and Youth track

WSIS

Session 429

14:00–15:00 (UTC+02:00), Friday, 23 April 2021 ICTs and Youth Thematic Workshop

ICTs, Youth & Environment

One million species are at risk of extinction, 10 million hectares of forests are lost annually, and with a global average temperature of 1.1°C above estimated pre-industrial levels, the global community is far off track to meet the Paris Agreement targets.

New ideas and quick action are needed for systematic transformational changes.

Young people have many ideas for innovative solutions and the drive to make a change, but it can be difficult for changemakers to make their voices heard and reach the right people to turn ideas into action.

ICTs can be part of the solution. The speed and scale of digital innovations not only provide a growing number of opportunities for sustainable development, but ICTs are enabling ideas to be heard and scaled up globally.

In the context of the WSIS Special Track on ICTs and Youth this session strives to highlight the interplay between youth, ICTs and the environment and how youth are using ICTs to engage in environmental protection and to scale up their ideas and solutions.
