The session will be conducted by four to five panel members and will be moderated by the Chief Planning Officer of the Ministry of information and Communications.
The panelist will discuss on the various initiative undertaken by the country in promoting the development of ICTs in the country. They will also discuss the issues and challenges faced by them while implementing these activities and initiatives. Among others, the panelist will discuss on the role of government and other stakeholders in the promotion of ICTs for development, how these activities worked as an enabler for development. Further, the Panelist will discuss on the development of information and communication infrastructure especially in the telecommunication sector to bridge the digital divide by providing access to the internet for all. Furthermore, one of the critical issues happening in the country is the development of a national cyber security strategy. The National Cyber Security strategy is intended to provide the much needed direction to the Government in responding to the rising cyber security incidences.
Mr. Chhimi Dorji is the current Chief Planning Officer responsible for overseeing all planning and policy development process related to the Ministry. Prior to joining the Ministry as the Chief Planning Officer, he was the Dy. Chief Program Officer at the Bhutan Narcotics Agency.
Mr. Sonam Phuntsho is the Chief of the Telecom and Space Division, Department of Information Technology and Telecom. As the Chief, He is responsible for initiating,and implementing plans and activities related to the development of telecom and space sector in the country. He have more than 14 years of experience of working in various capabilities within the Department.
Mrs. Deepika Rai is the current officiating Chief for the Tech Industry Development Division, Department of Information Technology and Telecom. As the Head, she is responsible for implementing all activities related to the development of tech industry in the country. Further, she is also responsible for implementing the ICT literacy program.
Mr. Sonam Penjor is the officiating head of the Application Management Division of the Department of Information Technology and Telecom, Ministry of Information and Communications. As the Head, he is now responsible for implementing the Digital Flagship Program in the country. The program intends to speedup the implementation of ICT projects around the country. Further, Mr. Sonam is also co-manager to the development of the various ICT systems in response to COVID-19 in the country.
