Information about the project
Health Child
IICD together with local partners set up a resource centre and equipped it with internet connectivity, computers and video cameras to enable the Village Health Teams (VHTs) working with 7 health facilities, to access health information and create audiovisual and mobile-supported content that can be used to inform pregnant women and mothers on maternal and child health issues. The VHTs make use of mobile phones to sensitise community on issues like HIV/AIDS and family planning, and to increase adherence to appointments for pregnant women. The programme established an SMS platform, serviced by the VHTs, which community members can subscribe to. As a result, information to prevent common illnesses among children is more easily accessible and pregnant women are more likely to take antenatal and postnatal care and deliver in health facilities. http://www.iicd.org/about/publications/mhealth-iicd
