The Central Civil Registration System
MERNIS
MERNIS is a project that transfers all identity,civil status and residential address information to computerised environment and enables these data to be updated via 975 District Civil Registration Offices scattered all over the country. With project it aims to update the data quickly and provide the services efficiently and fastly to the citizens. With the project: -The Turkish Republic Identitiy Number was given to every citizens -All civil registration data were transferred to electronic environment -A centralized database was established -957 District Civil Registration Offices were connected each other via internal network. -Regardless of where their family registry, it is conducted that people can receive services from the District Civil Registration Office where they live. A unique Turkish Republic Identitiy Number which consists of 11 digit numbers, including no information about person and the last two digits are used for confirmation, was given to every Turkish Republic citizens on 28 October 2000.
