Description of the event
|
This will be our 8th year celebrating International Girls in ICT Day and we are excited to once again come together in-person to showcase some of the amazing people and departments across the BBC. As in 2024, this year will also be taking place in multiple UK BBC locations: London, Salford, Birmingham and Glasgow. Each year this event is organised as a group from BBC WiSTEM (the Women in STEM staff network) in partnership with BBC STEM. We will be welcoming around 100 schoolgirls to participate in a day of workshops and activities showcasing some of our fantastic STEM and ICT associated work. These include the chance to get hands-on with some interesting pieces of assistive technology such as a braille display; the opportunity to work together to produce a live radio NewsBeat-style programme and an AI workshop delivered by BBC R&D. Throughout the day the girls will also meet some of the inspiring women and men who work in related roles; demonstrating the breadth of opportunities available here at the BBC. The event will open with a welcoming message and will close with a panel discussion and Q&A, both streamed across all participating sites.
