Girls in ICT Day is a global initiative supported by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to empower girls and young women to consider careers in the ICT sector. The event aims to address the gender digital divide and encourage female participation in STEM fields. This year's theme, "Leadership," highlights the importance of female role models in STEM, as women remain underrepresented in ICT-related fields despite holding 40% of highly skilled jobs. Since its inception in Senegal, the initiative has gained momentum, with organizations promoting the potential of ICT opportunities for young girls. In collaboration with ITU, the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy (MCTN) organizes International Girls in ICT Day, a critical initiative to encourage women and girls to pursue STEM careers and education.
