Description of the event
|
The wide spread reliance on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and the meteoric growth of the Internet and online services are Strong testimonies of the benefit of shared data and shared resources. Hence the need for a reliable ICT training, software development and deployment, data mining and reporting in Uganda has been a long-standing wish of many corporate, industrial, banking and the private sector. Crafting leadership gender gap in every industry, the largest gaps are found in the STEM fields in the Kasese compared to neighboring districts.In the rural village of Kasese, it is observed that many families are poor, many youths are literate, half-literate without software development skills especially Microsoft Access Reports embedded with Crystal Reports. They have no work to do to support their academic levels, even they have no idea to web based systems development using Visual Studio and have no money too. After observing this panic situation of the rural poor youths, we could understand that there is a need of training on Information Communications Technology.

Rwesororo Women’s Trust (RWTRUST) is a charitable, Women based, non-governmental and not for profit making organization. The foundation was established in 2010 and registered in the same year with the community development department Kasese district NGO/CDO desk. The establishment of this foundation was to address women constraints and empowering women through innovative approaches in areas of Microcredit services, education, reproductive and child health, ICT, health, agriculture, Vocational services, HIV/AIDS, life skills and community development with a focus on poverty alleviation, economic empowerment and establishing a society where women and girls live happy, healthy, educated and free from all forms of violence under a conserved community. Relevance towards ITU Strategy.The Girls in ICT event celebrations focuses on “computerized reports enhancement“, to enable quick decision making in leading positions hence building strong female role models in software development, Art, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers.Event objectives1 To develop ICT knowledge among young people in Kasese. Being exposed to the IT services shall benefit the youth in gaining advanced industry knowledge.2 To exploit opportunities available in the ICT industry to better meet youth employment: The ICT industry is by far the rapidly growing industry, it has vast opportunities of employment, ranging from typing to programming. Some of the computer courses are provided free online. This event shall seize those opportunities to help the youth with them.3 To train young people of Kasese in ICT systems development and support: As part of the practical hands-on classes to be provided, the youth shall be trained to know how to develop data driven software and systems, upgrade systems and how to maintain programs.EVENT BENEFITSThe youth will:• Have access to ICT basics.• Trained on data management use and basic programming skills• Trained on web-based systems, systems development and support services• Gain knowledge on data reporting using Crustal Reports in decision making• Trained on online-academia, security, emerging teleconferencing platforms• Have more opportunities for employment.
