Strategies to boost climate action in the ICT sector
Wednesday, September 11, 2019, 9:15 AM - 10:30 AM, Room 3 - Plasma
2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change. As the effects of climate change have become more evident, the discussion has shifted to focus on how to boost climate action to meet the ambitious emission reduction targets defined in the 2015 Paris Agreements. In this context, what is the ICT sector doing to address its own carbon footprint? What measures have already been put in place to measure progress towards greening the ICT sector? Is it possible to be a digital champion and a climate champion at the same time? How is the ICT sector embracing the principles of a circular economy? This session, organized with the Global e-Sustainability Initiative, will present current trends in advancing sustainability in one of the most thriving sectors of the economy. The session will also feature the work conducted within ITU-T study group 5.
