Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Hungary

Ms Kuni Sato was accredited to Hungary as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in October 2017.

She hasstarted her diplomatic career in 1981 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan.

Her overseas diplomatic assignments included First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Thailand (1992-1994) and the Embassy of Japan in the United States of America(1994-1997), Minister of Japanese Mission to the EU in Brussels (2004-2007), Minister/Deputy Permanent Representative to the WTO, Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva (2007-2010) and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Delegate of Japan to UNESCO in Paris (2015-2017).

She also had responsible inland positions of Counselor, Cabinet Legislation Bureau at the Government of Japan (1997-2000), Director of International Agreements Division, Treaties Bureau (2000-2002) and Director of WTO Affairs Division (2002-2004), Deputy Director-General, International Legal Affairs Bureau (2010-2012), Assistant Vice-Minister (2012-2013), Press Secretary, Director-General for Press and Public Diplomacy at MOFA andAmbassador for Women, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs (2013-2015).

Her educational career included lecturing on international relations, law and diplomacy at several universities in Japan.

Ms Sato has graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1977 and the Columbia University in 1980, and holds BA degree of International Relations and M.Phil. degree of Political Sciences.
