GIZ -Girls in ICT Day in Aswan

The first "Girlsin ICT Day” taking place in Aswan to promote employment of young women in ICT.

International Girls inICT Day is an opportunity for girls and young women to see and experiencetechnology in a whole new light. The initiative, the initiative is backed byall ITU Member States, aims to create a global environment that empowers andencourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field ofinformation and communication technologies (ICTs).

In order to enhance womenparticipation in ICT sector in Egypt and support them to acquire ICT skillsthat can raise their employability chances and create opportunities to earn anincome.

In order to enhancewomen's Labour market participation and broaden their employment spectrum, German Society forInternational Cooperation (GIZ)in cooperation with International Telecommunication Union (ITU), InternationalDevelopment Research Centre (IDRC) , Aga Khan & Continuous Education Center(CEC) organized the "Girls in ICT Day" in Aswan. The event is linkedto the ITU's international "Girls in ICT Day" event.

Objective of the Girls in ICT Day
The "Girls in ICT Day" aims to provide young women in Aswan with apractical insight into the ICT sector and ICT skills that can raise theiremployability. Special focus will be placed on self-employment opportunitiesthough amongst others meeting different role models and entrepreneurs in theICT sectors.

When & Where?

Day 1 Wednesday, 26thApril & will take place in the CEC

CEC Address:  Aswan,Nasser City, Villa Fawzy Atteya, Beside Educational Buildings

Transportation for the participants to the CEC will be provided via a busfrom the Aswan train station at 8:30 am.

Day 2 Thursday, 27^th April & will take place in Aswan culturepalace  

Culture Palace Address:  Corniche El Nil St.,Downtown, beside Omar Afandi

What are the “Girls in ICT “Activities? 

Day 1: Innovative ICT Training:
Young women will get the chance to participate in an innovative ICT training,which will give them first insights into the ICT sector. The day will concludewith a contest. The winning girls (5-10)  will receive scholarships tojoin further ICT training to enhance their skills and increase their employmentopportunities.

Day 2: Career Fair:
The career fair focuses on self-employment opportunities in the ICT sector.Different education, training and start-up support providers from Aswan as wellas role models will be present on this day.
