Girls in ICT Day Girls in ICT Day is an international event promoted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialized agency for Information and Communication Technologies. It is held on the fourth Thursday of each April, promoting the awareness of girls and young women for their incorporation into the ICT sector. This international initiative aims to encourage girls and young women to consider technological careers. There is a large digital gap in women's access to this sector and it is very important to reduce it, because it is a growing area, generating employment and every year demands qualified professionals. Only 30% of the nearly 7 million people working in the ICT sector are women. They are under-represented at all levels and especially in decision-making positions. The fact that women can enter ICT jobs will provide a boost to the EU economy. The aim is to provide women with digital skills, education and increase their participation in ICT. Girls in ICT is ITU's initiative to promote the interest of girls and young women in technological studies and incorporation into the ICT sector. |
