Girls in ICT Day - Iceland

The Girls in ICT day was held in Reykjavík University in Iceland on May 22nd 2019.

The aim of the day is to interest girls in technology studies and jobs within the sector, to introduce them to industry role-models, break down stereotypes and show them the versatility inherent in this field of study. The project is a collaboration between Reykjavik University, Ský (The Icelandic Computer Society) and Samtök iðnaðarins (Federation of Icelandic Industries).

This year around 1000 girls in 9th grade toke take part in the day.

 The girls attend workshops at Reykjavik University where they are e.g. presented with challenges in web design, programming and artificial intelligence. Following the workshops the girls will visit companies in the tech industry where they get a chance to meet female role-models and see what it is like to work in the industry. The Girls in Technology day will also be held in Akureyri in cooperation with the University of Akureyri on May 21st.
