Girls In ICT Event’s Plan Duration: March 18- April 30, 2019
International Girls in ICT Day, celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April every year aims to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies (ICTs). But, in Malaysia we have been celebrating this in a wide scale from 2017 covering a whole month with events, programs, competitions, career sessions and many more. Here are the brief programs plans for 2019.
Event/Program
Open House Day/Seeing is Believing Career Talk Online Test School Quiz Competition
Open House Day/Seeing is Believing The purpose is to familiarize these students with the real life working environment that can help them in planning for their career in the relevant field. The 3 hours long visit gives an idea of relevant skills and qualifications that the students need pursuing the career. Thus, being a students they get all the necessary information to be a professional in the relevant skills. Mode of the visit This year, we will have two mode of company visit: 1.Registration & Selection: The selected and interested female students are given the opportunity to visit IT companies and organization. This will be held only in Malaysia. The number will 15. 2.Group Visit: We will provide transport and certain number of students from 1 or 2 institutions will visit the company. This will applicable for outside Kuala Lumpur. This number will be 4. Career Talk We invite the female technology leaders of the country to share their experiences and motivate the young girls and women in different university. The interactive session helps the participant girls to come out of their cocoons and interact with the leading guests. This will be celebrated all over Malaysia. The number is around 15.
Online Test Campus Test: 5 online contest will be held in 5 different campus. This will be opened only for the campus students. National Test: With the all participants and others, a national onsite online test will be held. School/College Quiz Competition Along with the Girls Programming Workshop organized for the school girls, we also arrange ICT school quiz competition around the country. We will have 10 school quiz this year. #missingdaughter #missingdaughter aims to bring out the girls and women in STEM and ICT motivating and encouraging them to participate in the related events and thus build up their career in ICT. We arrange programming camps for students. For example, for school and college students, we arrange Girls Programming Camp and for university going students we arrange Girls.
Programming Training Camp. This year we will arrange 10 Girls Programming Workshop & 5 Girls Programming Training Camp. New Addition: Session for parents/teachers/guardian This is a new addition this year. We will arrange 2 sessions; inside & outside Kuala Lumpur for the parents/sessions/teachers and guardians to raise an awareness among them. Hone Your Skills This will be both for tech and non-tech students, developers and would be developers. CV writing, facing interview board etc will be included.1 session. Round Table for Industry/Employer Here, selected industry representatives will be sharing their thoughts, priorities and opinion that they look into while recruiting someone at their organization. 1 session. Workshop for Path to CSE to Diversity This will be a great opportunity for the CSE students/graduates to explore their working opportunity. 1 session.
Round Table Discussion A Round Table Discussion on how we can support more girls to join in ICT, what strategies we should follow, what are the existing and potential scopes and opportunities in local and global arena for the Malaysian girls available and challenges in the way forward will be discussed. Some of the leading personnel will be invited at the discussion. This session is expected to be published in news portals and some local channels. Internship And Placement
To ensure a long term engagement and a permanent result, we match make with the interested female to the potential firms/ organizations/companies. There, the girls will get an internship opportunity and learn the things through a hands-on activities. This year, we have a plan to support around 40 girls and females by arranging such internship around the country.
Girls Innovation Boot Camp To celebrate Girls in ICT Day 2019, 60 female participants from all over Malaysia who are passionate about programming and already have built up their mind to set their career in ICT will be invited for this intensive learning opportunity titled 'Girls Innovation Boot Camp to be held on............... This will be a hands-on workshop focusing on ‘Concept to Product’ innovation. Using the Design Thinking Model, the facilitator will be helping the participants to design a strategy for their Idea to be transformed into a Viable Product with minimum addressable market. The workshop is considered as the ‘Initiation of a long term support’ for the participants. After the workshop done, the facilitator will select efficient participants who will be working with their Idea and Product in total 4 teams throughout a year. There will be other intensive learning sessions, workshops, one-to-one interaction within the time that will help to transform the participants’ idea into a Real & Market ready viable product.
