Abstract 

We intend to celebrate the International Girls in ICT Day as one-day ICT competition (24th of April) & one-day Event (25th of April) between interested young and teenage girls here in Kabul, Afghanistan. The winner of the competition will be officially announced and awarded with valuable prizes.

International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of April around the world.

 

Problem Statement

One of the biggest problem today in Afghanistan society is that IT field is not enoughly bold among girls and ladies in our society. The girls in Afghanistan does not even have a vision to go and study IT field and even if some takes this field, due to the lack of proper programs for girls in university environment, they often feels that they are not a good fit in this field and that this field is for men. 

Women are an important pillar of society and their active participation in each field of society is mandatory. Therefore, there is a need to fill this gap and introduce women with IT in order to inspire, encourage and increase their interest in the field and let the public and women understand that IT is not only for men and women can be equally successful in this field. 

Objectives: 

To encourage more Afghan girls and young women into ICTs.

To introduce more Afghan girls to study ICTs at universities or follow it as their professional career.

To support Afghan girls and young women by mentoring, sharing work space and other facilities.

To introduce current successful Afghan ICT girls & women by Tech panels and talks.

To prove public mentality that IT is not male dominated field.

Expected Outcome: 

Building capacity for girls and women in technology 

Encourage women and girls in technology leadership and management 

Increasing girls and women self esteem skills and knowledge in ICT  

Girls empowerment in technology initiatives  

Project Description: 

The competition registration announcement will start from 1st of April online from website and promoted by social media tools. We will contact the registered interested girls and young women to be interviewed and around 20 participants will be selected. They will be given the competition themes of the program and according to these program themes they have to search, get prepared and get help for the competition day on 24th of April.

The competition will be held on 24th of April, one day before the main celebration event on the site (Momtaz Host Company Tech Lab), accompanied by a team of technical supervisors.

Awards 

Momtaz Host Company & Momtaz Yoga Center will award the winners a three months Internship, technical trainings, space sharing, mentoring & support, co-working space support at Momtaz Host Company.

Event Description:

24th of April: Competition Day

20 selected competition candidates will participate on this day at Momtaz Host Company Tech LAB to develop their competition idea and theme at Momtaz Host tech lab. There will be supervisors and mentors to help them with their ideas mockup initial sketch . These supervisors and mentors will guide them about their ideas and important components of  the competition. 

Each Individuals will be given 5-10-minutes for presentation of their developed idea for the competition.

25th of April: Event Day

There will be a tech-talk panel and the panel guests will be from those successful startups, businesses and individual women & girls in ICT fields.  

The competition winners will be announced on the Event day after our judge’s evaluations by our experts from different ICT companies and NGOs.

Some different entertainment programs also will be performed during the event program.

We consider to have discussion and speeches on ICTs as general and girls in ICTs.

We are also intending to have related ICTs programs such as presentation or digital and technology exhibition (will be included depending on our time & program).
