Girls Day in ICT – in Serbia

The Association of Business Women in Serbia (ABW)– in cooperation with partner organizations, ABWs from all around Serbia and Belgrade and project partners – has been celebrating and implementing the international „Girls’ Day in ICT“ 9 years in a row.

The Goal of all activities on this day is to empower girls to leave stereotypes aside when choosing their future professions and they have their own interests and talents as their guide.

More than 100 primary schools in Serbia have participated and so far, after 9 years, more than 7,000 girls joined „Girls’ Day in ICT“  and had the chance to meet successful women role models and entrepreneurs from more than 100 companies.

Many cities from all around Serbia join the project every year – cities with partner ABWs and towns where schools and companies wished to give contribution to „Girls’ Day in ICT“: Subotica, Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Valjevo, Kragujevac, Nis, Vranje, Zajecar, Cacak, Jagodina, Obrenovac, Pozega, Leskovac, Sremska Mitrovica, Paracin.

Activity No.1 - Three years ago AWB introduced a competition for girls aged 12-14 called „Seize the Idea“ inviting girls to present their entrepreneurial ideas by submitting a video tutorial having in mind their peer „you tubers“. All ideas that meet the criteria are published on ABW Serbia YouTube channel.

Activity No.2 - „Girls’ Day in ICT“ every year are the company visits – girls visit the companies of their choice in all the cities of Serbia that joined the project.

Activity No.3 is the celebration,this year to be held in Vip Mobile (Austrian Telekom) in presence of Serbia’s Prime Minister and other offcials such as Commissioner for Protection of Equality, Ministry for Youth and Sport, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Telecommunications as well as other sponsors, entrepreneurs and media representatives.

ABW Serbia started organizing „Girls’ Day in ICT“ for the first time in April 26, 2012 in 23 towns in Serbia, in cooperation with the „Professional orientation in Serbia“, project implemented from 2011 to 2014 by German agency for international cooperation – GIZ. Ever since, the event and the project itself never stopped growing and today is an event of great importance and visibility.

In 9 years of implementation, the project was supported by companies and organizations such as Vip Mobile, Telenor Foundation, Schneider Electric, Ministry for Youth and Sport Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Telecommunications, German agency for international cooperation – GIZ – through two projects: YEP and VET, Office for Youth and Center „Inventiva“ and many, many others.
