The Americas, Jamaica, Kingston, Jamaica

SheLeadsIt, an NGO created to unlock opportunities to empower girls and women in tech, is excited to introduce Caribbean.Girls.Hack – 2019 Hackathon, which builds on the success of the Girls in ICT Day Caribbean Hackathon 2017-2018. Caribbean.Girls.Hack – 2019 Hackathon is an interactive tech initiative with training over a 2-month period, with hackathon events across the region in May 2019. The 2019 Hackathon will bring together teams of girls, representing High schools and Universities,  from 5 Caribbean Countries; Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines,  to meet and learn, hack and develop and most importantly have FUN!

HACKATHON THEMES

The 2019 hackathon will focus on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Climate Change and Resilience, under the themes:

  • #FutureSafeGirls
  • #ClimateSafeFutureSafe

The girls will deepen their understanding of  the actions they each can take to address these issues, that are not only affecting the Caribbean, but countries globally. The “Hacker Girls” will be guided through an interactive Web based training program, designed to increase their awareness and sensitization on the topics around which they will problem solve, build leadership capabilities, and increase tech skills, in a competitive virtual environment. Tech experts will deliver training in various  ICT activities and  tools including introduction to new world coding podcasting,  Artificial Intelligence (AI), social media campaign design and development, animation, video/documentary production, mobile app development and how to deliver a winning pitch.
