Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF) - Zonal Competitions in Basic Programming

A total of 248 young girls across the country gathered in three Centres and introduced to simple programming using MIT App Inventor in order to motivate them to get enrolled to science subjects and ICT. The three centres are at Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), Mbeya University for Science and Technology (MUST) and in Capital City of Dodoma at University of Dodoma. These are form three students who will first compete in the three zones to get 31 winners who will again compete at National Level to obtain 6 students who will participate in International Girls in ICT day in Ethiopia. The Zonal competition will take four days.

First, on day one, the training was officially opened by Regional Commissioner for Mbeya Hon. Albert Chalamila and Dodoma by Hon. Patrobas Katambi while in Dar es Salaam centre the event was officiated by officials from TAMISEMI. The opening ceremony was followed up by training session including introduction to computer to take care of different needs for different students.

On  Wednesday, 7th March, 2019 students had a tour to visit Vodacom Premises in three regions. The program started at 10.00am where they received a welcome note from EHOD's followed by presentations on Vodacom Network and Coverage followed by Questions and Answers session. After Question and Answers session, students started a tour to Vodacom Data Centers in groups.

After completion of Zonal Competition, a total of 31 winners gathered at UDOM for a National Competition that started on 10th March, 2019 and will be closed on 12 March, 2019. Hon. Prof. Joyce Ndalichako, A Minister for Education Science and Technology will be a Guest of Honor during closing ceremony.
