TAP Africa4/25/2019Africa, Kenya, Kirinyaga County, KenyaTAP Africa exists to tap and develop the potential of young people as agents of change in their communities. Through our work, we engage young people, especially girls, in learning and addressing social challenges in Kenya, such as Gender Based Violence and Youth Unemployment. The world today is full of vast prospects opening the young people to digital skills, limitless knowledge and endless opportunities, in turn improving their socio-economic status, freeing them up from the yokes of poverty. For millions of young people in the rural areas of Kenya learning to use a computer is a mere dream, as it is mostly a preserve for the young people in the urban areas. As such, through the Digital Literacy for Employability and Entrepreneurship Project (DLEEP), in partnership with ConsulNet Corporation, WomenInTechPK, Ananke & The Shima Foundation, we have been equipping 20 young people (15-25 years), mainly girls from Hon Kiragu Secondary school in Kirinyaga County, with basic digital skills: Introduction to computer technology, MS office and Introduction to the internet. During International Girls in ICT Day, on the 25th of April 2019, we intend to have a graduation day for the 20 teens as cohort 1. The teens will then venture into more advanced digital skills: Graphic design, Website Development and Android App Development. This one day event will include the following activities: 1. I.T games to test their abilities i.e. speed tying and power point presentation skills in groups of 5 1. Career advice from Guest speakers within the ICT sector 2. Educational energizers 3.
