Action For Development-Girls in ICT 20194/18/2019Africa, Uganda, Rubirizi, UgandaThe First Final edition of the International Girls in ICT Day in Rubirizi will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18, 2019 by Action For Development Uganda. The event will take place at Rubirizi Mail Hall, Kampala Uganda. A total of 100 Senior Secondary School Girls will attend from both government (public) and private schools across Uganda. The theme of this year’s will be in line with some of ITU’s theme “Expanding Horizons, Changing Attitudes.” Activities of the day will include talks by the Minister of Communications Technology, Rubirizi ICT Office, 4 Chief Executive Officers and District Women MP as the main speaker. These professionals will take time to demystify careers in technology and make the young girls see why a career in technology is worth considering by telling their own stories. This also make the girls see first-hand women who have succeeded in ICT. There will be also a Quiz competition, which will focus on the Computer Studies and ICT subjects. Prizes will be presented to the first three winners of both the quiz competition. Practical hands-on click will begin where participants will be trained with Internet and data communication, networking skills as these are essential parts of Computer Studies and ICT Subjects in Uganda. Feedback forms will be filled out by the students and guests, participants at the event because no career should be regarded as “made for men,” and more awareness should be created to sensitize more girls because females all over the world should challenge themselves to do the unimaginable, achieve the unthinkable and bridge the gender digital gap with passion in whatever they do.
