On the 26th April, the Portuguese Government celebrated the International Day of Girls in ICT by developing a nationwide event, involving 16 public schools located in 15 different municipalities. During this day, 24 female engineers went to secondary schools and hold role model sessions about women and ICT. Around 810 students, girls and boys, attended these sessions.

This initiative integrated the Pilot Project Engeneers for 1 Day, promoted by the Portuguese Government, during the school year of 2017-2018, and developed by 10 school clusters. It focus on mainly students attending the last 3 years of secondary (15-17 years old) and has been coordinated by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, with the Instituto Superior Técnico. The project aims to combat sexual segregation of the labour market and to prevent it through formal education, especially in the areas of technology and engineering where the percentage of women remain very low.
