The girls in years 4, 5 and 6 took part in the International Girls in ICT day during their after school STEMettes club. It is called STEM because that means Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics and STEMettes because only girls are allowed! The girls used Scratch to create a maze program. They first chose a character from the options available and promptly shrunk it so that it could negotiate the maze. A unicorn seemed to be a popular choice. Then they set about drawing a fiendish maze using the line tool. They programmed the up, down, left and right keys to move the unicorn. We ran out of time to make sure that if the unicorn touched the maze it would be sent back to the beginning. The girls had great fun taking part in the International Girls in ICT day and will continue to use ICT to make more projects.
