The International Girls in ICT Day event was celebrated on 25 April 2018 at Microsoft's office in New York.

Key to creating a more inclusive ICT sector with increased participation by women and

greater interest among girls to undertake studies in the area is having more visible and

diverse female role models in tech; better understanding of the array of tech jobs

available and the different pathways into them; and of how tech can be a means to other

ends, including to fulfill social purpose and social impact, rather than just be an end in

itself.

With this in mind, to mark International Girls in ICT Day 2018 in New York City, the

ITU, UNICEF, UN ICC, NYC Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, and BuildNBlaze

collaborated on an event at Microsoft’s offices in Times Square on the afternoon

of 25 April. It brought girls and some boys together with women technologists and

other women in tech from the private sector, the UN, NGOs and academia to meet

and be inspired by each other, engage in a group discussion on the themes behind

International Girls in ICT Day, have some refreshments, and participate in a fun get-to-

know-you activity together.
