ANAC CHOOSES ACADEMY TO CELEBRATE WORLD WOMEN'S DAY IN ICTs

The auditorium of the University of Cape Verde (UNICV) was the venue this Thursday, April 26, of a conference on the "Role of Institutions in Women's Empowerment in ICTs", in celebration of International Young Women's Day in ICTs, in a joint partnership between ANAC, public university and CV-Digital.

The event was attended by the Secretary of State for Innovation and Professional Training, Pedro Lopes, who emphasized the importance of the role of women in ICTs, in the formation of a technological community, for the country's development. That is why the government recognizes the need to strengthen the role of women in Information and Communication Technologies in Cape Verde.

"There is data showing that we need to strengthen the role of women in ICT, and we know that, and so we are dealing with public policies. But, it is also necessary, the contribution of other sectors, because this is not built alone, "he said.

According to Pedro Lopes, the Government will always be a partner in this field, because, in the wave of building a Cape Verde 2.0, it has a preference not only for boys and girls, but for people and Cape Verdeans of excellence.

David Gomes, still chairman of ANAC's Board of Directors, talks about a lack of statistical data on women in ICT in the country, which, in his view, has taken the visibility and interfered in the priority of policies of the sector aimed at girls.

"Faced with this situation, it can be said that women are still faced in terms of access with an imbalance and exclusion of information technologies, so it is necessary to have studies to know where we are and what we need to do to have more policies aimed at the empowerment of women in this field, "he says.

In light of this, David Gomes stressed that the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), at the global level, is persuading governments to invest in women in this area, as the responsible person argues, whoever does so is investing in the future and to multiply the investment.

It is recalled that each year ITU chooses the last Thursday of the month of April, to dedicate to women in ICTs, as a way of encouraging the girls of the different member states of that organization to reflect and embrace careers in the new technologies sector information and communication technology.
