International Girls in ICT Day

International Girls in ICT day is celebrated on April 26th. This celebration was established in
2011 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with the aim of
promoting interest among girls and women in the scientific and technological
professions.

Centro Escolar Antares from Tegucigalpa, Honduras is added for the fourth consecutive year to this great celebration by performing 4 activities for 5 different days.

 1.   Small Conference about Programming: A student of Computer science from a prestigious university in Honduras was invited to talk to the girls about her experience in studying a career related to ICT, and gave a small introduction about programming and how can people use it to create different things, such as games, cartoons, etc.

 

2.   International Girls in ICT Day Opening: An important representative from ITU in Honduras came to our school and talked to the girls about the purpose of the celebration and importance of the International Girls in ICT and about web and social media security.

 

3.   Mobile App Workshop: During their computer class, 7th and 8th grade had a Mobile App Workshop, where they were able to create an application for cellphone with and online program, understand the different elements that an app should have and they really had a lot of fun. 

4. Robotics Exhibition: We had the privilege to have and invitee and representative from Stem Foundation in Honduras, who offered to the girls from 1st grade to 11th grade en exhibition and explanation about programming and robotics, she talked about the importance to be updated with all the different elements and information of technology, likewise, lose the fear of trying and manipulating different programs and devices. 

- There are also two more scheduled activities for May 23rd, which is a Career Fair where 11th grade students are going to create a Wax Museum and they´re going to explain and present the different specifications of it, and the other activity is scheduled for June 6 where students are going to present a Magazine created by themselves, where they are going to integrate the different skills the have acquired, related to technology, and of course, soelling, drafting, etc.
