DOT will be showcasing the work of daring young social innovators at Global Affairs Canada! Join us from 9:00AM to 11:00AM to learn about how youth around the world are transforming their communities. 

At 10:00AM EST, two #DOTYouth will join us on a live video stream to share how their social enterprises are bridging the gender digital divide in their communities. 

Joining us virtually at 10:00AM EST will be: 

Ruth Kaveke, Co-Founder of Pwani Teknowgalz - Kenya

Ruth Kaveke is a web developer, SEO master, and the Co-Founder of Pwani Teknowgalz. Passionate about training and educating  young women, Ruth works with girls in Mombasa to expand their knowledge and skill base in the IT sector and gain meaningful employment. Ruth has participated in TechWomen’s mentorship fellowship in California,  the eSkills4Girls program in Rwanda, and has co-hosted Africa Code Week and Mozilla’s Global Sprint.

Pwani Teknowgalz is a community-based organization focused on inspiring the next generation of young women to venture into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Based in Mombasa, Kenya, Pwani Teknowgalz leads primary and secondary school girls in workshops and training sessions including Technovation app-development programs, technology meetups, technology mentorship programs, and coding classes to inspire and educate them to pursue STEM careers.

Catherine Kalinga, Founder of Girls Awareness in IT-Profession - Tanzania

Catherine Kalinga is a Digital Champion and Founder of Girls Awareness in IT-profession based in Tanzania. A former student of both the University of Dar es Salaam and the Institute of Information & Communication Technology, Catherine earned her diploma as one of only three women among more than 40 men in her graduating class.  She has since made it her life’s mission to create awareness of IT opportunities for women, and teaches girls enrolled in low resource schools coding and web development courses to jumpstart their careers in technology fields.

Girls Awareness in IT-Profession (GAIT) inspires young women to pursue studies in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and works to increase the number of women excelling in IT and IT-related fields in Tanzania. In a male-dominated field, GAIT educates young women with coding classes and clubs, digital literacy programs, and encourages them to apply for STEM scholarships and programming.
