#GirlsInICTechWeek is in its third year – and this is the first time the event is taking place in West New Britain Province.

The West New Britain #GirlsInICTechWeek has brought together a total of 24 girls from 7 secondary schools to participate in fun learning activities.

On the first day, the girls learned about computer technology and on the second day they developed a simple website. On the third day, the girls will visit the IT Department of the New Britain Palm Oil company, and on the fourth they will attend a full-day seminar.

The special guest-facilitator is Crystal Kewe, a 19-year old self-taught software developer, based in Port Moresby and Chief Technical Officer of her own company, Crysan Technology.

The girls were also made aware of the National Information Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) scholarship that has been running since 2016. The scholarship funds tuition for 4 girls who decide to pursue further studies in the field of ICT.

Sponsors to this year’s #GirlsInICTechWeek event include New Britain Palm Oil Limited, the New Britain New Ireland Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist and the National Information Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) as well as a number of other individual sponsors.
