Plan International Bangladesh will observe ‘Girls in ICT Day’ on 18 April 2018 for the very first time at divisional level at RDRS, Rangpur which will thread another program at Dhaka.  The event is organized by Plan International Bangladesh in collaboration with BRAC, BIID and PreneurLab. International Girls in ICT Day, an initiative aims to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICTs.

Honorable Ms. Minu Shill, Additional Secretary & Additional Divisional Commissioner of Rangpur Division will be present as chief guests at event. Also, Md. Mustafizur Rahman, Director Innovation-a2i PMO will be present at the event as well. Different stakeholders from relevant Govt. Departments, ICT Unit, academicians, INGO/NGO, civil society members, private sector, community and a bunch of young people are going to be gathered to make this initiative successful.

In Bangladesh if we want girls as creators of technology and digital solutions, first we have to focus on removing the barriers so that more and more girls get interested in technology and peruse carrier once they completed their study. In that case, Government must include ICT and digital technology education in national curricula, and actively support girls’ participation in these subjects, to prepare them to thrive in the jobs in the future. ICT sector and employers also should pay attention to create a girls/women friendly, gender sensitive job environment to bloom where girls/women will feel free to grow and develop. Meanwhile, we should pay extra concentration to our girls of hard to reach areas where even education is not available. That’s why this year, Plan Int. Bangladesh initiate to celebrate this day in Divisional level (Rangpur) where girls and young women from remote Upazila and Unions can attend and experience the Digital Solutions.

The proposed event includes the following;

  • Panel Discussion / Dialogue session among the Govt., ICT Minsitry ,University Professor,Employer and Private sectors at national Level
  • Run a survey on finding out the root causes of being girls are not taking ICT in their education and developping career
  • Showcasing ICT BUS/Google BUS to ensure access to ICT
  • Presentation based on Research findings and best practices
  • Soft launch of the ICT Learning Center at Rangpur
  • Sharing success stories from community & female entrepreneur
