St John Bosco College - Nations Ladies Girls in ICT Day 20187/11/2018Europe, United kingdom, United KingdomNations Ladies (NL) is a charitable organization whose sole purpose is to inspire young girls from vulnerable communities to achieve their highest potential. Nations Ladies provides careers and life skills workshops as well as work experience opportunities to youth between the ages 14 to 18. The Nation’s Ladies will support youth mentorship programme entitled “Reach One, Teach One”, is referred to as the Reach Mentoring Programme. Reach Mentoring is offered at the St John Bosco College, a secondary school in the Battersea area of London has been selected as the first site for the mentorship programme. Nations Ladies works with St John Bosco College to mentor underserved and at-risk youth focusing on girls, with the aim of improving opportunities for educational advancement and career development. This Girls in ICT Day event will take place on July 11 as part of the Careers Day at the school, encouraging girls to pursue studies in STEM and careers in ICT. The event will feature a talk by an innovative woman in tech business, Digiwoo, a digital marketing and social media company Founded by Lisa Goodchild, a self-professed 'Digital Duchess'. Lisa will inspire the girls from her experiences working in the digital space and social media, and how her integrated communications company provides high quality digital content for different types of businesses. She will also share a new platform DigiLearning, set up to inspire and encourage children across the world to develop their talents in the digital space and reach their full potential, providing access for kids to get hands on with coding and other digital skills, allowing the students to understand the possibilities digital can provide them for building a better future. This talk will share basics on how coding is the art of telling a computer how to perform complex tasks and will encourage students to use platforms to kearn digital skills like it is a second language. It needs to be at the foundations of everything we do to ensure our kids understand the power of digital if used in the right way!
