Inicio and EIT Digital, Girls in ICT Stockholm4/27/2017Europe, Sverige, KTH Kista, Isafjordsgatan, Kista, SverigeGirls in ICT Stockholm Inicio and EIT Digital organised a full day with activities for 100girls in the Stockholm area. The girls got to learn how to solder and the basics of electronics as well as designing a boring street into a smart and cool street. They also got the chance to listen to an inspirational talk from Swedens IT-girl of the year and during the lunch break startups show cased their projects to the participating girls and our volunteers. This years activities were: Workshops: BubbleNode Inicio developed a simple circuit for this event that taught the girls the basics of electronics and how to solider. The BubbleNode was also programed to interact with other BubbleNodes to simulate a small network. Many of the girls had never soldered before this event which was no problem because we had mentors to guide them and tech them how to do it. So by the end of the day all of them know how to put together a simpel circuit. Smart city For this workshop Inicio developed a simple view of Kistagången in Sweden, which is a road known for being the most boring road i Stockholm. The girls challenge was to change this. So with the help of Ericsson employees they got to brainstorm how to change it and how to integrate technology so that the road wouldn’t just be more attractive but also the most smart and techy road in the world. All of these ideas were then shown to politicians in Kista so that the ideas wouldn’t be forgotten. Inspirational talk: Sofie Borck Janeheim Swedens IT-girl of the Year Sofie inspired all of the girls by telling them her story of how she got in contact with IT and how she uses IT every day, even to send notifications to her boyfriend so that he dosen’t forget to water the plants. She also encouraged them to not give up and to always try everything before saying no. Mini-fair: During our mini-fair we had five startups showcasing their products, it was everything from a concert app to the first smartguitar. Sensus is the first real Smartguitar developed by Mind Music Labs and all of the girls got the chance to try it out if they wanted. Anymaker 3D has developed an easy-to-use app for 3D creation with the purpose to develop children’s spatial and analytical abilities. Has developed an app to maximise our surroundings by creating interactions for live entertainment events. A VR game developing startup that only works with VR. During the fair the girls got to try out different games and learn about VR. The first most social robot made a visit to our fair showing them how AI will change our lives in the future.
