YWCA of Myanmar/ Girls in ICT Day 20174/26/2017Asia & pacific, Myanmar, Yangon, Yangon Region, Myanmar (Burma)Girls in ICT Day – Expand Horizons ~ Change Attitudes On 27th April, YWCA of Myanmar celebrated International Girls in ICT Day 2017 in Yangon. There were approximately 150 participants with 95% young women from communities. The event has “young women’s dialogue” session followed by docuanimation on gender based violence. The last session was ICT hands on training led by a young woman, Vice-President of YWCA. Young women from YWCA project areas-- post armed conflict areas of northern Karen State were invited to participate in the young women’s dialogue. Young women shared their life stories of how access to ICT has broadened their horizons and changed their lives. After “young women’s dialogue” session, a young woman film maker screed her project –docuanimation which highlights 1 stories of gender based violence in Myanmar. The 1 stories tell the audience –challenges and discrimination experienced by marginalized group of people in society. Finally hands-on ICT training was conducted by a young woman, Vice-President of YWCA of Myanmar. She talked about staying safe online; prevention of cyber bullying; facebook security etc. Participants are moved by the stories shared by young women from post armed conflict areas—how they were empowered by use of ICT in their daily lives and their career. |
