INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES DIVISION (ITSD)4/25/2017The Americas, Saint vincent, St Vincent and the GrenadinesSt. Vincent and the Grenadines joined the rest of the world in celebration of International Girls in ICT Day. The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), in the Ministry of Economic Planning, Sustainable Development, Industry, Information and Labour, collaborated with the Gender Affairs Division in the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Social Development, Family, Gender Affairs, Persons with Disabilities and Youth, to six ICT training and awareness workshops, which aimed to empower girls and women in the area of ICT, as it is an essential tool for the social and economic development of this gender. On Tuesday, 25th April, two workshops were held at the Layou Learning Resource Centre and another two on Wednesday, 26th April at the SVG e-Government Centre Training Room in Kingstown. These workshops targeted young and older women of the community, and single young mothers, respectively. Participants were given basic training in Introduction to Computers, the Use of the Internet, Microsoft Word, PublisherandExcel. Today, Thursday, 27thApril 2017, International Girls in ICT Day, young girls from the communities of South Windward and Kingstown are participating inGraphic Design, Photography,the Use of the Internet and Microsoft Publisher training at the SVG E-Government Centre Training Room. These workshops are aimed at providing girls and women training that can be applied in the job. Ms. Jacqueline Creese, Assistant Director at ITSD; Ms Thersita Charles and Mrs. La Fleur Quammie-Harry, Program Officers in the Ministry of Mobilisation, etc. gave brief remarks at the beginning of the sessions. Mrs. Desiree Armstrong, Ms. Makada Miller, Mrs. Jozeene Bailey, Ms. Donna Michael, Ms. Phillia Alexander and Ms. Jacqueline Creese, staff members at the ITSD, facilitated the training. The eighty four (84) participants expressed their appreciation for the training and their willingness to learn more and apply the knowledge received. |
