Google Home Tech4Girls Workshops "Tech Savvy Girls!" (Organized by GSMA North America)

Under the hospices of GSMA's Tech4Girls Initiative, GSMA North America partnered with The Caribbean Association of National Telecommunication Organizations (CANTO) and Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) to host a two-day series of Google Home workshops for 60 girls. The girls were selected from three secondary schools in Trinidad and were introduced to the components of a computer (Raspberry Pi) & the construction of connected device (Google Home). This year’s Girls in ICT Day program focused on the theme “Tech Savvy Girls!”.The Google Home Sessions included girls selected from three secondary schools in Trinidad who were introduced to the components of a computer (Raspberry Pi) and the construction of connected device (Google Home). Speakers came from THE Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT), Flow, and Digicel Group. CANTO & TATT engaged the Gender Affairs Division and the Ministry of Public Administration as co-partners. 

The GSMA Tech4Girls Initiative aims to provide girls with the technical knowledge and skills to prepare them for careers in technology. Through its series of hands-on educational workshops for girls, participants are introduced to mobile technology concepts to have a sense of accomplishment through learning as well as an understanding of the diverse skills required to join and shape the workforce of tomorrow. The GSMA’s participation underlines its commitment to helping with the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
