High School September 17th, Girls in STEM

4/25/2019

Europe, Serbia, Lajkovac, Serbia

For International Girls in ICT Day events 2019, the school organised a presentation of the etwinning project "Famous female mathematicians 2". Around 100 primary school students from our city attended, of which around 50% were girls. We talked about the importance of women in ICT and the famous mathematicians. Our team studied the life and work of the famous female mathematician Mileva Einstein Marić, originally from Serbia. With many web tools, we presented her life and work and the contribution she gave in science. Also, our students, economic technicians, displayed a database with well-known mathematicians. Based on the sketch of the model, they created the following tables: Schools, Teachers, Students, Mathematicians, Followers and Discoverers. Various inquiries have been created based on real data from the project, giving a good overview of the participants in the project, about mathematicians and their followers, and about discoveries. We then discussed the importance of women in science and how young people are interested in ICT. We all agreed that it is very important that young girls are encouraged to deal with technology and ICT and to provide assistance, and that this event is only an incentive to achieve that goal.
