Girls in ICT Day 20174/27/2017The Americas, The bahamas, Nassau, New Providence, The BahamasOn Thursday April 27, 2017, The Bahamas will once again celebrate International Girls in “ICT” Day. As an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) initiative, the ITU has called for its member states worldwide to celebrate the 4th Thursday of April each year as International Girls in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Day. The Bahamas is a member of the ITU, which is the United Nations agency for telecommunications. In observation of Girls in ICT Day, The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA), along with sector licensees will again sponsor a one day symposium and trade fair at the Melia Nassau Beach Resort. The first celebration of Girls in ICT Day in 2015, brought together students from high schools throughout New Providence for an exciting day of interactive learning. Several students were awarded internships with telecommunications service providers, URCA and other event partners. Students were able to meet and speak with women who are considered the pioneers in the in various disciplines within the Electronic Communications Sector. |
