Description of the event
To celebrate International Girls in ICT Day on 23 April 2026, FAO will host a global webinar: “AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future.” The session explores how AI is transforming agrifood systems and highlights why empowering young women is vital for an inclusive digital age. While FAO research shows women adopt technology as readily as men, structural barriers and digital exclusion still hinder rural girls. This event, aligned with the International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, addresses how AI can bridge these gaps rather than reinforce them.Featured Speakers:Henry van Burgsteden (Senior Innovation Officer, FAO)Moderator: Alessia CorreaniPanelists: Huda Alsahi (FAO), Isabella Chancahuana Castillo (WFF/Huawei), and Buyiswa Twala (Agrigreat).Drawing on FAO’s AI Innovation Roadmap, the webinar emphasizes that sustainable agrifood systems require girls to not only use technology but to lead its design and governance. Achieving true digital transformation demands their active participation.
