Description of the event

The NCA in collaboration with the NTTI is celebrating Girls in ICT Day 2023 in Somalia, the aim of this celebration is: To inspire girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the ICT field and join the tech industry. To sensitizes employers on the need to promote gender balance in the ICT sector at all levels of the profession. This is the sixth year Girls in ICT Day is celebrated in Somalia, for more information on previous events please visit https://girlsinict.so/The Girls in ICT Day 2023 competition was hosted to showcase the talents and expertise of Somali girls in ICT. The competition requires participants to choose a topic either: Tech Entrepreneurship, Educational Resources, or Climate change. The participants will choose one of the issues discuss challenges and opportunities within the Somali landscape and suggest solutions using ICT either make a website, App, or video. Also, a total of 7 free training blended workshops for 100 girls were given during the event from 8th-16th April, the topics included Introduction to web development, Introduction to graphic design, Introduction to Linux, cybersecurity, Computer Networks, E-commerce, and Communications skills.

The National Communications Authority in collaboration with the National Telecommunications and Technology Institute hosted the celebrations for the Girls in ICT Day 2023 in the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as EGUALS, GSMA, and local partners.
