Description of the event
María Garrido from the University of Washington (UW) in association with the International Federation of Library Associations and Library Associations (IFLA), will present the work carried out on access to information at the global, regional and national levels, in three critical dimensions: connectivity, freedom and gender equality. The first data analysis report shows a decline and stagnation in the levels of access to information. The data also indicates that, although in most countries there are more people online, freedom and human rights continue to be a pending issue with indicators showing a worsening of the situation, while progress towards gender equality it has been low, particularly in low-income countries. The preliminary results of this work - which includes contributions from an INTA researcher - will be presented this month at the Forum of Latin American and Caribbean Countries for Sustainable Development organized by the United Nations in Chile. The expert will focus on the digital gender gaps and the opportunities that open up from there for public policies. The thematic presentation will then serve to open a discussion on the challenges of digital access.
