Description of the event
Join us on April 28 for a special VirtualiTea organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Digitalization and Informatics Division and the Women's Committee celebrating the International Girls in ICT Day. Science, technology, and innovation are key drivers of our increasingly global and digital society. They are key accelerators towards transforming agrifood systems and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. But did you know that less than 30% of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professionals are women? The digital gender gap is even more important and continues to expand in many developing countries. Against this background, the need for diversity, equity and inclusion of women in STEM and particularly Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), is huge. In particular, changing gender-specific professional expectations, and inspiring girls and young women to pursue careers in ICT is crucial. Grab a cup of tea and tune in to hear women working in ICT in FAO share their experiences and take part in the discussions. External participants, including especially girls and young women are welcome to join the discussion too!
